Hip Pain Treatment in Hazel Grove & Stockport

Hip pain can affect walking, sitting, exercise, work and everyday activities. At Yearsley Chiropractic, we take the time to understand your symptoms and assess the factors that may be contributing to your hip pain before discussing the most appropriate approach to care.

Understanding Hip Pain

Hip pain can develop for many different reasons and may come on suddenly following an injury or change in activity, or develop gradually over time.

Pain around the hip can sometimes be felt in other areas, including the groin, buttock, thigh or lower back. Symptoms may include aching, stiffness, discomfort during movement or pain that affects your ability to walk, exercise or carry out everyday activities.

At Yearsley Chiropractic in Hazel Grove, Stockport, we assess each patient individually. We consider your symptoms, medical history, lifestyle and goals before determining whether chiropractic care is appropriate for you.

What Can Contribute to Hip Pain?

There isn't always one single cause of hip pain. A combination of physical, lifestyle and other factors can influence how your hip feels and functions.

Changes in Activity Increasing exercise, running, walking or other physical activity can place additional demands on the hip and surrounding muscles, particularly when the change is sudden.

Previous Injuries Previous injuries involving the hip, pelvis, lower back or leg may sometimes influence movement and how your body responds to physical activity.

Muscles and Joints Irritation or sensitivity involving the hip joint, surrounding muscles and other tissues can contribute to pain and changes in movement.

Repetitive Activities Repeated movements or activities such as running, cycling, lifting or prolonged walking can sometimes contribute to symptoms when the demands placed on the body exceed its current capacity.

Lifestyle and Recovery Sleep, stress, physical activity and general recovery can influence how we experience pain and how the body responds to physical demands.

How We Assess Hip Pain

Your first appointment begins with a detailed discussion about your symptoms. We'll ask when your hip pain started, how it has changed, what makes it better or worse and how it is affecting your everyday activities.

We'll also discuss your relevant medical history, previous injuries, exercise and activity levels and any other factors that may be relevant to your symptoms.

This is followed by an appropriate physical assessment, which may include examining your hip, lower back and lower-limb movement and carrying out relevant orthopaedic or neurological tests where indicated.

We'll explain our findings and discuss the most appropriate next steps with you. If your symptoms suggest that further medical investigation or referral is appropriate, we'll explain this and recommend that you seek the appropriate care.

Chiropractic Care for Hip Pain

Where appropriate, chiropractic care may form part of your management plan. At Yearsley Chiropractic, treatment is tailored to the individual rather than following a one-size-fits-all approach.

Where clinically appropriate, care may include gentle McTimoney chiropractic techniques alongside advice around movement, exercise and self-management.

Our aim is to help you understand your symptoms, support your recovery and help you work towards returning to the activities that are important to you.
