Joint Pain Treatment in Hazel Grove & Stockport

Joint pain can affect your movement, exercise, work and everyday activities. At Yearsley Chiropractic, we take the time to understand your symptoms and assess the factors that may be contributing before discussing the most appropriate approach to care.

Understanding Joint Pain

Joint pain can affect many different areas of the body, including the neck, back, shoulders, hips, knees, ankles, wrists and other joints.

Symptoms may develop gradually or appear following an injury, change in activity or increased physical demands. You may experience pain, stiffness, reduced movement or discomfort during particular activities.

Joint pain can have many different causes, and the appropriate approach depends on the individual and the joint involved.

At Yearsley Chiropractic in Hazel Grove, Stockport, we assess each patient individually. We consider your symptoms, medical history, lifestyle and goals before determining whether chiropractic care is appropriate for you.

What Can Contribute to Joint Pain?

There isn't always one single cause of joint pain. A combination of physical, activity-related and other factors can influence how a joint and the surrounding tissues feel and move.

Changes in Activity Increasing exercise, walking, running, lifting or other physical activity can place additional demands on your joints and surrounding tissues.

Repetitive Movements Repeated movements or activities can sometimes contribute to irritation or sensitivity around a joint, particularly when the demands placed on the body increase.

Previous Injuries Previous injuries, including sprains, strains or other trauma, may sometimes influence joint movement and contribute to ongoing or recurring symptoms.

Muscles and Surrounding Tissues The muscles, tendons and other tissues surrounding a joint can influence how it moves and how symptoms are experienced.

Lifestyle and Recovery Sleep, stress, physical activity and general recovery can influence how we experience pain and how the body responds to physical demands.

How We Assess Joint Pain

Your first appointment begins with a detailed discussion about your symptoms. We'll ask when your joint pain started, how it has changed, what makes it better or worse and how it is affecting your everyday activities.

We'll also discuss your relevant medical history, previous injuries, activity levels and any other factors that may be relevant to your symptoms.

This is followed by an appropriate physical assessment. Depending on the joint involved and your presentation, this may include examining movement, strength and function and carrying out relevant orthopaedic or neurological tests where indicated.

We'll explain our findings and discuss the most appropriate next steps with you. If your symptoms suggest that further medical investigation or referral is appropriate, we'll explain this and recommend that you seek the appropriate care.

Chiropractic Care for Joint Pain

Where appropriate, chiropractic care may form part of your management plan. At Yearsley Chiropractic, treatment is tailored to the individual rather than following a one-size-fits-all approach.

Where clinically appropriate, care may include gentle McTimoney chiropractic techniques alongside advice around movement, exercise and self-management.

Our aim is to help you understand your symptoms, support your recovery and help you work towards returning to the activities that are important to you.
