Neck Pain Treatment in Hazel Grove & Stockport

Neck pain and stiffness can affect your movement, work, sleep, exercise and everyday activities. At Yearsley Chiropractic, we take the time to understand your symptoms and assess the factors that may be contributing to your neck pain before discussing the most appropriate approach to care.

Understanding Neck Pain

Neck pain is common and can develop for a variety of reasons. It may appear suddenly following an injury or change in activity, or develop gradually over time.

Symptoms can vary between individuals and may include aching, stiffness, restricted movement, muscle tension or discomfort when turning or moving the head.

At Yearsley Chiropractic in Hazel Grove, Stockport, we assess each patient individually. We consider your symptoms, medical history, lifestyle and goals before determining whether chiropractic care is appropriate for you.

What Can Contribute to Neck Pain?

There isn't always one single cause of neck pain. A combination of physical, lifestyle and other factors can influence how your neck feels and functions.

Changes in Activity Increasing exercise, starting a new activity or performing movements your body isn't accustomed to can place additional demands on the neck and surrounding muscles.

Prolonged Positions Spending long periods sitting, standing or working in one position can sometimes contribute to discomfort and stiffness, particularly when combined with limited movement throughout the day.

Previous Injuries Previous injuries, including whiplash or sporting injuries, may sometimes influence movement and contribute to ongoing or recurrent symptoms.

Muscles and Joints Irritation or sensitivity involving the muscles and joints around the neck and upper back can contribute to pain, stiffness and changes in movement.

Sleep and Recovery Sleep, stress, workload and general recovery can influence how we experience pain and how the body responds to physical demands.

How We Assess Neck Pain

Your first appointment begins with a detailed discussion about your symptoms. We'll ask when your neck pain started, how it has changed, what makes it better or worse and how it is affecting your everyday activities.

We'll also discuss your relevant medical history, previous injuries, lifestyle and any other factors that may be relevant to your symptoms.

This is followed by an appropriate physical assessment. Depending on your presentation, this may include examining your neck and upper-limb movement and carrying out relevant orthopaedic or neurological tests.

We'll explain our findings and discuss the most appropriate next steps with you. If your symptoms suggest that further medical investigation or referral is appropriate, we'll explain this and recommend that you seek the appropriate care.

Chiropractic Care for Neck Pain

Where appropriate, chiropractic care may form part of your management plan. At Yearsley Chiropractic, treatment is tailored to the individual rather than following a one-size-fits-all approach.

Where clinically appropriate, care may include gentle McTimoney chiropractic techniques alongside advice around movement, exercise and self-management.

Our aim is to help you understand your symptoms, support your recovery and help you work towards returning to the activities that are important to you.
