Shoulder Pain Treatment in Hazel Grove & Stockport

Shoulder pain can affect reaching, lifting, sleeping, exercise and everyday activities. At Yearsley Chiropractic, we take the time to understand your symptoms and assess the factors that may be contributing before discussing the most appropriate approach to care.

Understanding Shoulder Pain

Shoulder pain can develop for many different reasons. It may appear suddenly following an injury or change in activity, or develop gradually over time.

Symptoms can affect the shoulder itself or sometimes be felt around the upper arm, shoulder blade, neck or upper back. Shoulder movement may also become painful or restricted.

At Yearsley Chiropractic in Hazel Grove, Stockport, we assess each patient individually. We consider your symptoms, medical history, lifestyle and goals before determining whether chiropractic care is appropriate for you.

What Can Contribute to Shoulder Pain?

There isn't always one single cause of shoulder pain. A combination of physical, activity-related and other factors can influence how the shoulder and surrounding areas feel and move.

Changes in Activity Increasing exercise, lifting, sport or other physical activity can place additional demands on the shoulder and surrounding tissues, particularly when the change is sudden.

Repeated Movements Repeated movements such as lifting, reaching, throwing or working with the arms overhead can sometimes contribute to shoulder discomfort.

Previous Injuries Previous injuries, including falls, sporting injuries or other trauma, may sometimes affect shoulder movement and contribute to ongoing or recurring symptoms.

Muscles and Joints Irritation or sensitivity involving the shoulder and surrounding muscles and joints can contribute to pain, stiffness and changes in movement.

Neck And Upper Back Problems affecting the neck or upper back can sometimes contribute to pain experienced around the shoulder or upper arm. An assessment can help determine whether these areas may be relevant to your symptoms.

How We Assess Shoulder Pain

Your first appointment begins with a detailed discussion about your symptoms. We'll ask when your shoulder pain started, how it has changed, what makes it better or worse and how it is affecting your everyday activities.

We'll also discuss your relevant medical history, previous injuries, work and exercise activities and any other factors that may be relevant to your symptoms.

This is followed by an appropriate physical assessment. Depending on your presentation, this may include examining your shoulder, neck and upper-back movement and carrying out relevant orthopaedic or neurological tests where indicated.

We'll explain our findings and discuss the most appropriate next steps with you. If your symptoms suggest that further medical investigation or referral is appropriate, we'll explain this and recommend that you seek the appropriate care.

Chiropractic Care for Shoulder Pain

Where appropriate, chiropractic care may form part of your management plan. At Yearsley Chiropractic, treatment is tailored to the individual rather than following a one-size-fits-all approach.

Where clinically appropriate, care may include gentle McTimoney chiropractic techniques alongside advice around movement, exercise and self-management.

Our aim is to help you understand your symptoms, support your recovery and help you work towards returning to the activities that are important to you.
