Sports Injury Treatment in Hazel Grove & Stockport

Sports injuries can affect anyone, from recreational exercisers to competitive athletes. At Yearsley Chiropractic, we assess your symptoms, understand how the injury occurred and consider your goals before discussing the most appropriate approach to help you return to the activities you enjoy.

Understanding Sports Injuries

Sports injuries can occur during training, competition or everyday exercise. They may happen suddenly following a specific incident or develop gradually as a result of repeated physical demands.

Injuries can affect muscles, joints, tendons and other tissues and may result in pain, stiffness, swelling, reduced movement or changes in how you perform an activity.

At Yearsley Chiropractic in Hazel Grove, Stockport, we assess each patient individually. We consider how your injury occurred, your symptoms, activity levels and goals before determining whether chiropractic care is appropriate for you.

Common Sports Injuries We Assess

Sports and exercise-related problems can affect many different areas of the body. Depending on your symptoms, examples may include:

Muscle Strains Muscles can become overloaded or injured during sport, particularly following sudden increases in intensity, volume or activity.

Joint Pain Sports and exercise can sometimes contribute to pain or stiffness around joints, particularly following changes in training or physical demands.

Tendon Problems Repetitive loading can contribute to pain and sensitivity around tendons. Symptoms may develop gradually and often relate to changes in activity.

Running-Related Problems Running places repeated demands on the body. Changes in mileage, pace, terrain or training frequency can sometimes contribute to pain or injury.

Overuse Injuries Repeated physical demands without sufficient recovery can sometimes contribute to persistent or recurring symptoms.

How We Assess Sports Injuries

Your first appointment begins with a detailed discussion about your injury and activity levels. We'll ask how the problem started, what you were doing when your symptoms developed and how they have changed since.

We'll also discuss your training routine, previous injuries, exercise levels, recovery and your goals for returning to activity.

This is followed by an appropriate physical assessment. Depending on your presentation, this may include examining movement, strength and function and carrying out relevant orthopaedic or neurological tests where indicated.

We'll explain our findings and discuss the most appropriate next steps with you. If your symptoms suggest that further medical investigation, imaging or referral is appropriate, we'll explain this and recommend that you seek the appropriate care.

Chiropractic Care for Sports Injuries

Where appropriate, chiropractic care may form part of your management plan following a sports or exercise-related injury.

At Yearsley Chiropractic, treatment is tailored to the individual rather than following a one-size-fits-all approach.

Where clinically appropriate, care may include gentle McTimoney chiropractic techniques alongside advice around movement, exercise and self-management.

Our aim is to help you understand your symptoms, support your recovery and help you work towards returning to the activities that are important to you.
